OpenAIs GPT-6 Cyber can both break into systems and propose how to fix them
The Decoder · By Matthias Bastian ·

The Brief
- OpenAI launched GPT-6 Cyber, a version of GPT-6 Astra built to find software vulnerabilities, test how attackers could exploit them, and help develop fixes.
- OpenAI says the model found 81 previously unknown vulnerabilities in Firefox, and Security Affairs reports they were high-severity, plus hundreds of Linux bugs.
- OpenAI says GPT-6 Cyber beats GPT-5.6 Cyber at exploitation and goes out of scope less often, and it is designed for authorized security testing of websites and applications.
Why it matters
Security teams and maintainers may get a tool that finds and exploits bugs faster, so the same capability could also be used by attackers. Developers should expect more AI-found vulnerability reports in widely used software.
