About The Morning Dev
The daily newspaper for software developers: only the news worth knowing. Every story passes a news check – no tutorials, no listicles, no noise.
What this is
The Morning Dev is a daily newspaper for software developers. It does not write articles of its own: it reads the open feeds of news desks, project and vendor blogs every day, keeps what a working developer should have heard about, and links to the original reporting. Headlines and summaries belong to their publishers.
Editorial policy
- Same sources, every day. Nothing is picked by hand and no outlet pays to be included. Every feed is listed with the reason it is in the paper on Our Sources.
- One piece of news, one entry. When several outlets report the same thing, they are grouped into one story that lists every source.
- The news check. Every story is scored from 0 to 100 for “should a working developer have heard about this today?”. Only stories at 60 or above make the paper; the rest stay reachable but are kept out of search engines. Tutorials, listicles and marketing do not count as news.
- Security gets its own desk. Incidents are rated on a published checklist on Shit Hits The Fan.
Every step, with today’s numbers, is shown on How It Works.
How AI is used
Claude, an AI model by Anthropic, helps at three points: grouping stories about the same news, scoring them for the news check, and writing the brief on a story page – a short list of facts, why it matters and what to do, taken from all sources of the story. It does not write articles, invent quotes or change headlines.
Briefings are generated automatically and are not checked by a person before they appear. They can be wrong; the original sources are always one click away, and they are what counts.
Corrections
If a briefing gets something wrong, a story is grouped with the wrong news, or a source is missing, tell us. Wrong briefings are regenerated or removed; the change shows in the page’s modified date.
Comments are written by readers and reflect their views, not the paper’s.
